The ‘Nothing New Night Market’ is inspired by the ‘Buy Nothing New’ movement.
‘Buy Nothing New’ movement began after 2011 when the results of the Melbourne Herald poll showed people thought buying nothing new for a month was a good idea. 82% of the 10.000 respondents answered "yes"
‘Nothing New Night Market’ encourages people to rethink their buying habits which reduces waste and gives secondhand items a good home.
Rethinking our shopping behaviour can help to shift from consumption to community, so buy nothing new at our Night Market.
Buy Nothing Day in Australia is observed annually on the last Saturday of November just after Black Friday.
It is an international day of protest against over consumption which originally started out in Vancouver, Canada.
The founding father of this day is artist Ted Dave who initiated the day back in 1992.
So sit back and relax with us, watch a film, look at art. But don’t buy a thing.
